Brigadesmen utilised up to end July 2004

The total number of teams used for the year is 170 teams that were deployed at 20 fires and other incidents 

Basic Ambulance Assistant Course -  BAA

Following discussions with all stakeholders it was agreed to disolve the previous MECA training and to adopt a recognised qualification namely the Basic Ambulance Assistant. This course is fully recognised and registered with the Health Professions Council of SA. Mines Rescue Services has been accredited as a college to conduct BAA training and will remain the governing body together with the Mines Rescue Emergy Committee, for the industry

Underground Rescuer

Anglogold Ashanti in consultation with MRS has identified a need to train certain underground employees as underground rescuers. This eminates from falls of ground rescue operations where Brigadesmen have been used to rescue trapped persons whereas workers employed in the underground section, could with training, perform the same task in the areas that they are accustomed to. Pilot courses are currently been conducted and the effect will be monitored

Control Room Managers Course

The previous MIT course has been modified to accomodate managers in office who may require refreshing on control room procedures

2nd International Mines Rescue Conference

Following the 1st conference held in South Africa, the next conference will be held in Sydney, Australia in November 2005

Accreditation with Mine Qualifications Authority - MQA

A process has began to register a Brigadesmen course with the MQA and a Technical Research Group TRG, 28 has been formed to identify and draft unit standards. In order to perform registered training, MRS is in the process of obtaining accreditation with the MQA

Long Service Awards

Brigadesmen long service awards by region will be held on the following dates:

        11 September 2004 - Evander Central District

        9 October 2004 - Klerkdorp

        22 October 2004 - Welkom Central

        30 October 2004 - Evander

        13 November 2004 - Carletonville

        20 November 2004 - Evander
